MY Home Town is a professional production of Comcast TV.  Each month the crew, with host Dorothy Wilhelm, visits a small community and focuses on “What’s going right?”  So far, My Home Town has visited 45 different communities, and we’re glad to report that there’s a lot going right.  Your home town could be next!! This month our home town is - the Pt. Defiance Zoo and Aquarium.  This is the most unique town we’ve ever visited - population about 6,000 if you count all of the little marine animals.

In the Rocky Shores Exhibit, we learned that polar bear's fur is not white, it's clear but appear white against the polar bear's black skin. The bear's fur is constructed to keep the polar bear warm and to dry quickly.

The Point Defiance Seahorse Exhibit has just won a prestigious national award. It's a fascinating exhibit and besides, you've got to love creatures where daddy gives birth to the babies.

There are two tigers in the zoos special Asian Forest Exhibit. There are only three zoos in the nation with the combination of free roaming and changeable exhibits that gives the animals the chance to experience the sort of changes of environment natural to them.

The eagle is part of the Wild Wonders show that teaches appreciative audiences about efforts to protect endangered species.

We're very proud of the fact that the scenes above shows the beautiful horses that now grace the Pt. Defiance Carousel in their first outing on TV on the predecessor to My Home Town - 50/50.

We learned that man can be the polar bear's natural prey. And no wonder. Pt. Defiance's Boris and Ken were rescued from a Mexican circus where they were mistreated and fed white bread and lettuce. When the circus stopped in Puerto Rico - an American territory - the bears were rescued.

We got to the shark area at feeding time. Lots of activity going on. The aquarium is very active in conserving and protecting marine life worldwide.

The Point Defiance Zoo features a Protected contact environment for its elephants.Although more than 50% of American zoos now use this method of handling for pachyderms, it was pioneered at Point Defiance.

This popular trio posed for a family shot at the Rocky Shores exhibit.

Now those horses have a brand new home at the Pt. Defiance Carousel. The horses all tell something about our own state of Washington.
