The famous Wilkeson Welcome Arch greets visitors to the historic mining town of Wilkeson. This is actually the second arch. The first fell in the Nisqually Earthquake, but this second arch is made of the original Wilkeson sandstone.

The beautiful sandstone school house, as beautiful, elegant and solid, as the day it opened in 1913, vyes for the honor of being the oldest in the state. But, there's beautiful structure in the oldest elementary builind in use. -- The site we're on is the site of the original school which was constructed at a cost of $34,000. The windows are made from what is called a ripple glass. You could still see the building because of the features in the glass. The glass has been preserved for almost a hundred years now.

Easter Bunny

In Wilkeson, a home is really a castle. Don't miss the story of this castle built from an ordinary four bedroom home. Click here to see the Castle on the Wilkeson promo.

We've got to admit that a lot of people have wondered about the presence of the Easter Bunny in the Wilkeson show. I mean, this isn't exactly the season, is it? But you see, the Easter Bunny is very important in Wilkeson and she couldn't let an event like this go by without taking part. Wilkeson is like that. You never know which friend will turn up next.
Russian Orthodox Church
Our Lady of Lourdes
Holy Trinity Church is on the national and state historic registries. It was founded in 1896 by the coal miners who worked the coal mines in the area. Built in 1900, this building was visited by our Bishop Tiken. In 1917, he became Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia. He suffered under the Bolsheviks and was made a saint of the Russian Orthodox church. Here we have both a photograph and an icon in the building. Also, the Patriach of Russia, Alexei the II, gave us relics which are embedded in the icon.

St. Aloysius Church in Buckley (shown above) hosts the mission church in Wilkeson, Our Lady of Lourdes. This historic and beautiful church dates back to 1894.

Eagles Building
Sandstone Quarry
Wilkeson Eagles would be an exceptional organization anywhere in the world. At a time when service clubs are dying, the Eagles in the last five years have raised nearly $170,000 and they've had fun doing it. And we should tell you that, while Wilkeson has a population of 450, the Eagles Club has a membership of 400. Learn how they do it in this month's show.

Some of the most beautiful buildings in the world are made from Wilkeson sandstone. On this month's show, you'll hear the recollections of an early Sandstone mill worker, as well as one of the two remaining Wilkeson Coal miners.

Roasting Coffee
Coffee beans
Buono is a family owned coffee shop devoted to the community of Wilkeson producing the best coffee for miles around. So, you'll find Gary Sinattee here most days, if he's not at a high school helping with a community project there, or at a meeting on the planning committee. Meet Gary and his brother Vince on My Home Town.
