Daryl the Dragonfly

We visit Crestwood Elementary school. Students there were responsible for making the Green Darner Dragon Fly our official state insect. His name is Daryl. Who knew?

Crestwood Elementary is also responsible for the success of Beartha, the composter which eats up every bit of the leftovers from the school lunches.

The first year was so successful that they collect over 2000 pounds of scraps a year and turn it into rich Beartha soil for the community’s gardens.

Over at Covington Elementary, the students celebrate spring by planting flowers. This school has students from 19 different countries, and this project assisted by Rotary and Kiwanis volunteers, allows them to get their hands into the soil of their new land.

Covington is the site of the Happy Mountain Cattle Farm, the largest facility for breeding
miniature cattle in the world. These tiny catlle which stand under 40” have been developed
to thrive on smaller farms with less feed.

This is a new breed - You’ll have a chance to meet the Covington shire, a breed named especially for our home town.

My Home Town, Auburn is seen on Auburn's City TV21 at 12 a.m., 6 a.m., 12 noon and 6 p.m. every day. It will run throughout March.
